SNARES |
|
|
Because KD drums are custom built, no two snares will ever sound the same as you find in mass produced drums,
allowing you to have that individual signature sound. These snares are available in any depth or diameter configuration.
A range of construction methods are offered including ply, segmented, stave, steambent, one-piece solid, and acrylic.
Our drums are available in a wide range of woods, including exotic species.

MAPLE PLY SNARES |
| |
 |
KD's maple snare drums are hand crafted from the finest select canadian maple by cross laminating 8 or 10 plies of maple into a superior quality round shell. The sound is warm, yet very open in the 8 ply models while the 10 ply modela offers more high end clarity and greater projection. All models give great sensitivity and great response.

VENTED SNARES |
| |
 |
This technique can be added to any of KD's snare drums. These drums simply have holes drilled directly through the shell, replacing the need for the common air hole. These openings can be any diameter you wish. Having these openings will dramatically increase the volume and sensitivity of the drum while decreasing the shells resonance. Because of this, it produces a very dry, fast decaying sound.

STAVE SNARES |
| |
 |
KD's stave snare drums are constructed in the same way as a barrel or conga drum using solid pieces of wood (or staves) that run the length of the shell vertically. Wood used to build stave shells is in a more natural form than ply drum shells or steam bent shells because the staves are solid -- no plies or stress from bending. This allows sound waves to travel more freely through the wood, creating a great resonance and tone.

SEGMENTED SNARE DRUMS |
| |
 |
Sonically similar to our stave drums, segmented snares are composed of rings of solid wood that are basically stacked one on top of the other, the joints are staggered and offset like you see in brick work. Using this method you create a snare drum that is so strong it has no equal!
